Jax Beach Eats: The Ugly Cupcake Muffinry

For anyone looking for a refreshing break from the Paneras and Starbucks of the world, we have got the place for you. The Ugly Cupcake Muffinry, located at 115 5th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach, is the perfect antidote to those chain cafes, but with all the perks like an extensive menu and delicious eats.

Visiting the Muffinry on a rainy Monday morning, my day instantly became brighter when I walked into the beautiful, historic beach house and smelled the fresh baked muffins.

 

I ordered The Original, which included a fried egg, Canadian bacon, cheddar jack cheese, tomato and onion inside a beautifully ugly “bruffin.” The resident muffin queen Colleen described bruffins as a “cross between an English muffin and a muffin top.” Yes, it was kind of ugly, but absolutely delectable.

 

My selection wasn’t easy though. The menu is quite impressive, especially for a small independent cafe and includes Eggs Benedict, breakfast scrambles and other morning-time goodies.

 

The lunch menu looked equally as delicious with a bevy of sandwiches and salads. We’re talking salads way beyond the standard lunchtime Cobb! They have a Lump Blue Crab Salad and a Warm Roasted Eggplant Salad that both looked fantastic. They also serve breakfast all day.

 

For the vegans and vegetarians out there, the Muffinry offers plenty of no-meat options as well.

 

The drink selection at the Muffinry is also vast, from specialty lattes to bubbly house-made sodas.

 

Stepping into the Ugly Cupcake Muffinry feels like you’re arriving at a friend’s house for coffee and a muffin. Though the dining room is small, it is warm and inviting. You can also dine on the porch, the perfect place for people watching and listening to the waves break just across the street.
