4 important questions to consider when upsizing your home

November 6, 2019

 |

At some point in our lives, most of us find the need for more space. The next logical step is to move to a home with more square footage. But there are several important questions that should be addressed before you start looking for a bigger house.

Why do I need more room?

Whether you are growing by people or acquiring more stuff (or both), your space needs will differ. Many families are growing and looking to accommodate more children. That means you need additional bedrooms, bathrooms, a larger living room and perhaps a larger yard to accommodate a swing set and trampoline.

Maybe an elderly family member is moving in or you have frequent guests. In that case, you may want to seek out homes with a separate suite or an apartment above the garage. Have you started a business that requires more space? Plan for another room to accommodate your office or perhaps a larger garage for your new company’s inventory.

Davidson agent Suzy Evans knows that selling a home—full of memories and cherished possessions—can be an emotional process. Her care in helping Scottie Keck to sell her home is a great example.

“Suzy is more than a real estate agent. She is really good in this area with her wealth of knowledge as well as the marketplace itself,” said Scottie. “She also brings a personal side that she feels what you are going through and understands this is a personal time of mixed sorrow and joy.”

Scottie and her husband purchased the St. Augustine home in 2014 with Suzy’s help. “After living in the area for two years, my husband passed. By this time, I had a good network of friends, which really made my life enjoyable.” However, after another three years, Scottie wanted to return to her roots in Texas to be near her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Please join me in donating food, toys and household necessities to the Emergency Services & Homeless Coalition of St. Johns County so that families with children can have a warm and happy Thanksgiving.

My annual Thanksgiving drive will be at the Heritage Landing amenity center parking lot on November 16 from 12 to 3 p.m. It’s easy to donate.

  1. Just add a few of the items from the list below to your next grocery list.
  2. Purchase them during your next shopping trip and keep them in a bag by your door.
  3. Head over to Heritage Landing amenity center on Nov. 16 and drop them off. Easy as that!

Past Thanksgiving drives have brought in hundreds of bags of food, supplies and toys for families in need. I’m excited to continue the tradition and would love to surpass all previous years!

Easy ways to boost your curb appeal…this weekend!

October 1, 2019

 |

When home sellers think about improving curb appeal, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. New exterior paint? New landscaping and sod? New driveway? Sounds exhausting and expensive.

But it doesn’t have to be!

If you’re planning to sell your home in the near future but worry about the time and expense of enhancing your curb appeal, there are plenty of easy ways to spruce it up—without breaking the bank.

Here are six easy curb appeal enhancements you can knock out this weekend with a trip to the home improvement store:

1.) Pressure wash your exterior. For some jobs, a water hose just won’t do. Be sure to spray all surfaces including the eaves and driveway; just avoid easily damaged areas like caulking around doors and windows as well as roof shingles. Don’t forget to wash the fence as well! You will be shocked at how much a good washing can make your home sparkle. Home Depot rents out electric pressure washers for just $38 per day.
