Davidson Appreciates Teachers Announces Winners! Congratulations to Ms. Ledford and Ms. Kenyon!

My daughter entered the St. Johns County school system in August of 2010. My expectations were exceeded in every aspect from the technology in the classrooms and even the detail into making sure that the children are placed into the “right” learning environment. Since day one, I have been so impressed with Wards Creek Elementary. Our friends that have children in Mill Creek Elementary feel the same way! After becoming one of the moms that talk about the schools and everything going on in our St. Johns County communities, I started thinking about a way we could give back to the teachers that make such a difference in our children’s lives. That’s how we developed the “Davidson Appreciates Teachers” campaign. We have made it through the first quarter focusing on pre-k, kindergarten and first grade. It has been such an amazing experience!

184860_10150425359295385_243700390384_17202004_6571610_nI received over 75 nominations for teachers. The top 3 teachers from Wards Creek were Ms. Kenyon, Ms. Bielfeldt and Ms. Fisher. The top 3 teachers from Mill Creek were Ms. Ledford, Ms. Peska and Ms. Stewart. Over 200 votes were placed on Davidson Realty’s Facebook page for the top teachers. The winner for Wards Creek is Ms. Kenyon and the winner for Mill Creek is Ms. Ledford! Congratulations to both of them!!!184277_10150425361330385_243700390384_17202029_717259_n

I wrote a blog about the teachers at Wards Creek and Mill Creek being “bucket fillers”, so I thought it would be fun to fill some buckets with some goodies for the winning teachers. Thank you to Kathy Howell, store manager of Crocs. They donated new shoes for the teachers. I would like to also thank Andy Murray from Caddyshack’s for donating a gift certificate for each bucket. Thank you to Davidson Realty for the generous gift cards to Target and the other goodies that filled up the buckets! And last but not least, I would like to thank all of you for the time you spent nominating, voting and helping us fill the buckets of the teachers at Wards Creek and Mill Creek Elementary.

On April 1st we begin 2nd Quarter. This time we are focusing on 2nd and 3rd grade! So, get your nominations ready and send them to me, Kristen Calhoun at kcalhoun@davidsonrealtyinc.com or call me at 904.940.5000. Please share with me why you think your teacher is the best and enjoy our video blog!

How Full is Your Bucket? Davidson Appreciates Teachers

February 10, 2011

 |

how-full-is-your-bucketHave you ever been asked if you are a “bucket-filler” or a “bucket-tipper”? If you’re a “bucket-filler” you choose to make other people happy. And, if you do that, you fill your own bucket with happiness in return. On the other hand, if you are a “bucket-tipper” you make other people sad and it ends up emptying your own bucket too. The teachers at Wards Creek and Mill Creek are bucket-fillers. Davidson Realty is doing a year-long contest called “Davidson Appreciates Teachers”. We have split it up into 4 quarters recognizing the different grades and support staff. I have been truly touched by the emails and phone calls I have received in the past month.

Every email and phone call nominating the teachers from Pre-k, Kindergarten and First Grade from the two schools has filled my bucket! Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have taken the time to share their gratitude for the experience their child has in Mill Creek and Wards Creek. For many parents, they are describing their first experience in the school district. How amazing is it that we live in a community with such high quality schools! We have confidence in our schools to help us raise our children to be responsible adults that give back to our community and be productive in our society. After all…it takes a village!

Character Counts in our St. Augustine Golf Course Community

January 12, 2011

 |

Davidson Appreciates TeachersWoodrow T. Wilson said that “Character is a by-product; it is produced in the great manufacture of daily duty.” When I sent my first born off to kindergarten, I thought about how I no longer would be her greatest influence. I knew she would spend more time with her teacher than with her parents. After touring the award winning St. Johns County Schools, we sold our home and moved to our St. Augustine golf course community.

Davidson Realty is launching a new program to thank those who make a difference for our children; teachers. The community is invited to take part. Each quarter, the community will be invited to submit nominations of teachers from specific grades at both Mill Creek and Wards Creek Elementary who most exemplify the “Character Counts” traits.

Dr. Joyner, Superintendent of Schools for St. Johns County to Speak at Davidson Speaker Series

July 12, 2010

 |

drjoyner0[1]Parents won’t want to miss the July 29th Davidson Speaker Series when Dr. Joseph Joyner, Superintendent of Schools for St. Johns County, will discuss important education topics and the outlook for our schools. I’ve talked with several parents of Mill Creek Elementary, Wards Creek Elementary, Pacetti Bay Middle and Nease High schools who are planning on attending on Thursday, July 29th at 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Joyner’s presentation, “What Parents Want,” addresses both the successes and challenges facing the school system, budget concerns and how the community can help support its students and local schools. The Davidson Speaker Series is a monthly event held at the Davidson Realty office at World Golf Village. It is free to the public.

During Dr. Joyner’s tenure as Superintendent, the St. Johns County’s School System has earned recognition as one of the best in the country.  Graduation rates have risen to 90.8%, the county’s schools are No. 1 on the FCAT scores and, year-after-year, the district earns an A rating.  Joyner has been the recipient of the Superintendent of the Year award and has served as President of the Florida School Superintendent Association.

The Davidson Speaker Series was started by Sherry Davidson, President, Davidson Realty, Inc. so that local professionals could share their expertise with the community. Wine and cheese are served and the event is held at the Davidson Realty offices, located at World Golf Village just across from Publix.
